Rafael Benitez Biography

Sport News 197-Rafael Benitez Maudes better known as Rafael "Rafa" Benitez is a soccer coach from Spain. This coach was born on April 16, 1960 in Madrid.

Benitez began his football career by plating in the academy of Real Madrid. He continued to complete college despite also playing in the division below the Spanish league.

He joined the coaching staff of Real Madrid at the age of 26 years. Working as u-19 team coach, reserve team manager and assistant senior Real Madrid. Benitez the moved on to become manager of Real Valladolid and Osasuna. 2 coaching career at the club is fairly brief and less successful.

Benitez then brought the second division team, Extremadura, returning to the Primera Division in his first season in 1997, but the team were relegated the following season. He then left the club, take a quick break from football before finally coached Tenerife in 2000.

In 2001, Benitez was appointed as coach of Valencia. Here he proved as one of the best managers in the Spanish league by winning the La Liga title in 2001-2002 season. Don Balon and El Pais named him as the best manager from 2001 to 2002. In 2004, the league title back earned plus the EUFA Cup winners. However, due to differences of opinion with the club's director in investment the club made him decide to move to handle Liverpool.

Benitez started his career at Liverpool after the brilliantly led the club into the Champions League in the 2004-2005 season. In 2006, he succeeded in bringing Liverpool FA Cup champion and finalist in the Champions League in 2007. But he still managed to give the English league titles and the highest, when it became a runner-up in the 2008-2009 season.
